Click fraud detection software: what should it actually detect?
A useful tool should show the evidence behind a warning and distinguish suspicious automation from poor targeting, accidental clicks and tracking failures.
No third-party tool can prove fraud from one signal. A repeated IP, short session or VPN may have a legitimate explanation.

Detection products usually combine network, device, session and campaign data. The strongest finding is rarely a single rule. Confidence improves when several independent signals occur together.

A practical detection workflow
1. Start with platform data
Add the invalid-click columns available in your advertising account. Check campaign changes, locations, search terms and network settings before installing another tool.
2. Compare ad clicks with site sessions
Join cost and click identifiers with server or analytics data. This reveals whether apparent losses come from traffic quality, measurement gaps or the landing page.
3. Review evidence before blocking
Automatic exclusions can remove legitimate customers. Use blocking only when the signal is specific, repeatable and connected to actual cost.

- Which ad networks and campaign types are covered?
- Can you inspect why each visit was flagged?
- Does the product separate invalid traffic from low-intent human traffic?
- How does it measure recovered spend?
- Can you export the raw evidence and reverse an exclusion?
